The museum is providing platform and necessary infrastructure for insect systematic research on classical and molecular lines. Currently NIMis engaged in identification of insect diversity (Pest, Natural enemies and Pollinators)in sugarcane, wheat and paddy crops through PSDP funded projects. Under ALP funding, molecular characterization of Odonata fauna of Pakistan has been initiated. Invasive species including Fall Armyworm (Spodopterafrugiperda) (J.E. Smith) and Tomato Leaf Miner (Tutaabsoluta) are under study for their distribution and damage assessment in Pakistan. Work on water striders (Hemiptera: Gerridae) as popular water quality indicator is also in progress. In addition to this many M.Phil and Ph.D scholars are undertaking theirresearch on taxonomy and molecular characterization of different insect Orders (Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, Diptera). |
