In Pakistan, 0.565million hectare (2017-18) is under oilseed crops with total production of 4.947milliontons. Edible oil is one of the important commodities of everyday use. About 88% of the domestic requirements of edible oils are met through imports. Domestic production of edible oil during was 0.431 million tons during 2016-17 (Table 1).

In domestic production, major share comes from cotton seed contributing 76% of local production. Whereas, rapeseed-mustard contributes 14%, sunflower contributes 9% and canola contributes 1%. Rapeseed-mustard, sunflower and canola are the potential crops, which can fulfill some requirements of edible oil in the country
