Ecotoxicology Research Institute was established in 1993 with the technical and financial assistance of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) through United Nations industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and was formally inaugurated by Sardar Farooq Ahmad Khan Laghari, President of Pakistan, in March, 1994.

Ecotoxicology Research Institute has now been merged with Institute of Plant & Environmental Protection (IPEP) and re-named as Ecotoxicology Research Program during re-organization of NARC.
