Two day Hands-on Training in Cultivation of Edible and High Valued Mushroom as Entrepreneurship

With the aim to raise awareness and train farmers, NGO members, and students in spawn production and the cultivation of edible and medicinal mushrooms, promoting mushroom farming across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas of Sindh a two-day hands-on training workshop was held on April 7–8, 2025, as part of the 2nd International Conference on Plant Protection Sciences (ICPPS-2025) at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tando Jam. The event was organized by Department of Plant Pathology, in collaboration with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Pakistan Science Foundation, Pakistan Museum of Natural History, and Sindh Higher Education Commission.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Uzma Sitara, Dr. Mohammad Ismail Bhatti, and Prof (R) Mohammad Mithal Jiskani expert resource persons and was efficiently hosted by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Khaskheli of SAU.

The workshop trained 35 participants in practical mushroom cultivation techniques, including substrate preparation, tissue culture, and spawn production. It promoted eco-friendly practices, indoor and vertical farming, and small-scale entrepreneurship, particularly for youth and women. Participants also learned about efficient packaging and storage to reduce post-harvest losses. An interactive session addressed queries, and attendees showed keen interest in applying their skills and joining future trainings in Sindh.

Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Sayal, Vice Chancellor SAU, attended the closing ceremony and praised the workshop's success and participant enthusiasm. Shields and certificates were awarded to resource persons and trainees, marking the workshop’s achievement in promoting knowledge and skills in mushroom cultivation.
