OBJECTIVES

  • Standardize propagation techniques for efficient multiplication and distribution of improved planting materials of tea & high value crops.
  • Increase the yield and improve the quality of tea by evolving high yielding and quality clones.
  • Determination and evaluation of quality parameters of made tea.
  • Mapping of areas in the region suitable to grow tea & various high value crops and survey to collect information on existing crops and varieties.
  • Establish required infrastructure with well equipped office, lab and field facilities for conducting research on tea & high value crops.
  • Introduce and evaluate new crops and varieties in different micro climates for commercial exploitation.
  • Develop package of technologies for different crops and demonstrate to growers for adoption.
  • Develop Post Harvest Management guidelines to improve quality and reduce losses.
  • Study nutrition management for different crops under different soil conditions.
  • Identification of major pests and diseases of different crops and develop control/ management strategies.
  • Training of farming communities for capacity building and transfer of technology.
  • Establish plant nurseries for distribution of quality plants to growers.
  • Develop linkages with sister institutions in the field and other stakeholders for joint ventures and collaborative work.
  • Publish bulletins, brochures, etc for distribution among stakeholders
  • Training of tea growers and dissemination of tea production and processing packages.
