FAO Regional Office for Asia and Pacific (RAP) in collaboration with Thai Education Foundation Thailand organized a workshop entitled “Regional Workshop on Institutionalization of Farmer Field Schools at Local and National Level in Asia, 23-28 May 2016 at Bangkok Thailand” where 12 countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) from Asia participated in the said workshop. On behalf of National IPM Programme, DPEP, NARC Dr. Tahira Yasmin SSO/PL participated in the said workshop. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad Ex-Chairman PARC/ Advisor FAO Pakistan Office, Mr. Jam Khalid, Program Manager, SOFT Islamabad and Dr. Munawar Raza Kazmi, Country Manger, ACIAR also participated in the said workshop.
There were two parts of the workshop. One was poster display by the participating countries on a given format to show the systematic progress in adopting FFS approach showing major millstones and achievements. The second part was consisted of interactive exercises regarding the following topics;
- Institutionalization of FFS experiences in the region
- Institutionalization of FFS country experiences
- Guidance Document on FFS Operationalization
- FFS Network in Asia
A resolution was passed by all the participants of the workshop that FAO may take lead to establish an FFS based Regional Network at Asia level. The resolution was presented to Deputy Director General FAO RAP who ensured that it will be considered and taken very well.
At the end of the workshop, each country developed an action plan regarding FFS Institutionalization and FAO Guidance Document launched by FAO. FFS Guidance Document can be downloaded from the following link;
