Arid Zone Research Centre, D.I. Khan

Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI), D.I. Khan established as sub-station in 1974 was up-graded to the level of institute during 1996 under the umbrella of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council to cater the needs of arid and semi-arid areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dera Ismail Khan lying in the extreme south western part of the province extends from the north latitude 31010/ to 320 40/ and east longitude 700 50/ to 710 20/, constitutes total land area of 730575 hectares. The cultivated area is 572000 hect with rain-fed area as 195000hac, irrigated 147000 hac and Rodkohi as 230000 hactares, a unique system of irrigation with great potential for agricultural production in Pakistan. AZRC- Office building

to semi-arid with mean annual precipitation from 180 to 305 mm. The area usually experiences the extremes of temperature that varies from 40C to 200C in winter and 260C to 440C in summer. High temperatures coupled with winds and low rainfalls are major causes of low natural vegetation in the area. AZRC farm with a total land area of 179 acres is located near Wanda Baloch, nine (9) kilometers away from Dera Ismail Khan city.

Re-structuring of AZRC

As per future vision of the Chairman PARC, the AZRC has been sub divided into Natural Resource Management & Outreach (NRMO), Bio-diversity, Genetic resource & arid horticulture (BGRAH) and General Administration Programs with designated Program leaders to work as per their mandate and envisaged in the overall future plan of work.

Construction of New Office Building at AZRC, Farm

With the special interest of the Chairman, the Construction of new office building at AZRC farm is in completion stages, which shortly will be handed over to PARC by the contractor.
