Mr. Jamshed Iqbl Cheema, Advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Food Security & Research visited PARC HQs, Islamabad on 22-04-2021, where he was warmly welcomed by Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, Chairman PARC along with other PARC high officials.
Talking to Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan said, PARC is the apex national agricultural research organization of highly qualified scientific manpower playing a key role for ensuring the national food security. Owing to the hard-work of these scientists, Pakistan is now self -sufficient in its major food items like wheat, rice, sugarcane, maize etc. He further added that our scientists have developed and distributed disease free banana plants through tissue culture & bio-fertilizers for better productivity of cereal & legume crops, high yielding garlic variety, developed prototypes of innovative machinery for post-harvest management specially sugarcane crusher & Ispaghol processing in collaboration with private sector. While talking about serious financial crunch, Chairman told about budget deficit and financial liability to be paid in pension and commutation which badly affected the research activities.
He also informed about giving public access to the edible commodities produced by agriculture scientists, a number of PARC products are now available for sale to general public on PARC Display Centres. These products included honey, beverages, poultry/dairy products, fresh veggies, cereals, fertilizers, seeds of approved varieties, herbal products, bakery/frozen products etc.
Mr. Jamshed Iqbal Cheema emphasized, PARC has contributed significantly in national economy and acknowledged PARC employees/scientists for their continued support to enhance food and nutritional security, improving the productivity of Pakistan’s agriculture and ultimately adding to the country’s economy. The Advisor to PM also ensured to approach concerned ministries along-with Finance ministry to manage financial crisis of PARC.
