PARC-CGSS in collaboration with National Security Division, Govt. of Pakistan organized a visit to NARC for high level delegations from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan
ISLAMABAD: (21st March, 2018) ……The Centre for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS) and PARC in collaboration with National Security Division arranged a visit to National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) for a high-level delegations from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan. The aim and focus of the delegation visit was to analyse in detail the Agriculture developments, food security and efficient natural resources utilization through joint research projects on subjects of common interest such as agricultural growth, farming, food security, international food standards and exchange of relevant scientific literature and other research documents.
Accordingly, a presentation was arranged for the Central Asian Delegation at National Research Centre (NARC) on possible collaborative initiatives aimed at creating awareness in agricultural development, food security and efficient natural resources utilization through joint research projects. Dr. Nadeem Amjad, DG, Agriculture Engineering Division, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) in his keynote address and briefing to the Delegation on the respective topic, extensively highlighted the current status of Pakistan’s agricultural industry, its challenges and about the agricultural development, food security, poultry, livestock, and crop production. He said that cooperation between Pakistan and Central Asian Countries in the fields of agriculture, food security / processing, crop production as other potential areas can be developed.He also explained that government policies for the agricultural industry. In his speech, he mentioned that although Pakistan considers its agricultural industry as its back-bone but unfortunately, due to limited approach this industry has suffered immensely. If this condition propelled further, it would cause immense challenges to Pakistan in aspect of food management for the general masses.
Major General (Rtd.) – Hafiz Masroor Ahmed, CGSS in his remarks stated that Pakistan is a land of opportunities for the Central Asian Countries due to abundant land and natural resources and its strategic location can serve as a regional hub for trade and economic cooperation. He further stated that PARC is one of the country’s leading entities that work on contributing to the country’s economic progress through science based solutions to agriculture.
The Central Asian delegates were also shown the experimental fields where NARC scientists practice their knowledge to develop new technologies and new crop varieties. The Delegation was briefed about the performance of NARC institutes and their contribution in research and development.
