PARC is organizing 4th Climate Change Adaptation Policy and Science Conference

Islamabad (21st February, 2018)...... Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) under the “Himalayan Adaptation Water and Resilience (HI-AWARE) research project is organizing the 4th Climate Change Adaptation Policy & Science (CCAPS) conference on February, 26th ~ 27th, 2018 at Islamabad Hotel, Islamabad.

Ms. Marriam Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for M/o Information and Broadcasting, Islamabad will grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Mr. Fazal Abbas Maken, Federal Secretary for M/o NFS&R will deliver his key note address. Dr. Yusuf Zafar, T.I, Chairman, PARC (Islamabad), Dr. David Molden, Director General, ICIMOD (Nepal), Dr. Kallur S. Murali, Sr. Program Officer, International Development Centre (IDRC) Canada, Dr. Philippus Wester, PI HI-AWARE, ICIMOD (Nepal), Dr. Ali Tauqir Shiekh, CEO, Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan,Dr. AKM Atiqur Rehman, Executive Director, BCAS (Bangladesh), Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI, India,Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Co- PI HI-AWARE, PARC and other dignitaries / prominent farmer leaders will also speak to highlight the importance of the above said International Conference

The CCAPS conference is linked with series of events held annually by the HI-AWARE which is a regional project being implemented by PARC in Pakistan, ICIMOD in Nepal, TERI in India, BCAS in Bangladesh and Alterra in the Netherlands funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK Department of Foreign Affairs and International Development (DFID) under the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) program. Lead Pakistan is strategic partner for HI-AWARE implementation in Pakistan.

Climate Change is globally accepted phenomenon and Pakistan is well acquainted with its changing climate as its impacts have been detrimental for Pakistan in the forms of hydro-meteorological disasters, reduced food production and similar damaging impacts. The conference aims at building a platform for climate change adaptation and resilience research in the region and to create synergies with actions currently conducted or proposed by other actors. The conference will facilitate exchange of knowledge and ideas on science, policy and good practices related to climate change adaptation in the Hindu-Kush Himalayan (HKH) region especially across Indus-Ganges-Brahmaputra River Basins.

Renowned international researchers, policy makers and thought leaders from USA, Canada, Netherlands, India, Bangladesh and Nepal will provide thought provoking insights. The two days conference will have the following discussion sessions and technical panels;

“Adaptation Science and Practices in the HKH Region, Adaptation Policy and Practices in Gender, Water and Livelihoods, Scaling up Innovative Adaptations Practices in the HKH Region; Communicating Climate Change, Challenges and Opportunities; Urban Heat Stress Management; The Intersections of Science, Policy and Public Health and Perspectives on Climate Change and Development.”

PARC encourages policy makers, researchers, academia and members of civil society to attend this International Conference and be a part of PARC’s efforts for Climate Change Resilience in Pakistan.
