Under the project titled “Promotion of Olive Cultivation on Commercial Scale in Pakistan” One-day training program was held at National Tea and High Value Crops Research Institute Shinkiari, Mansehra on 27th February, 2020. CSO/Director NTHRI/ProjectIncharge/Chief Scientific Officer Dr. F. S. Hamid inwelcomeaddress signified the Olive crop’s importance describing that potential areas of olive play a vital role in tethering the exceeding consumable oil imports to the country which engulfs about 28 billion rupees every year. Mr. Shamsul Islam, SSO, NTHRI briefed the participants about the olive cultivation, management and value addition.Participants also visited olive orchard and nursery established at NTHRI. Mr. Sheraz Qamar,Scientific Officer, Olive Project (NTHRI Component) briefed the farmersabout the olive nursery establishmentand management.Farmers ofthe area showed keen interest in establishing the valuable olive orchards and nursery.
Certificates were awarded to the participants’ after completion of training. Director NTHRI offered vote of thanks to the participants.
