|Mr. Jahangir Khan did his MSc. (Hons) Agriculture with major subject Plant Breeding & Genetics (PBG) from KPK Agricultural University, Peshawar. He started his research career as Assistant Scientific Officer at the Arid Zone Research Centre, PARC, Quetta. His main responsibilities were evaluation of wheat, barley and lentil germplasm under rainfed conditions of Balochistan. Later on he is promoted to the post of Scientific Officer in 2005 and he continued working as wheat, barley and lentil breeder. Jahangir Khan developed one wheat variety Tijaban-10 and one barley variety Rakhshan-10 with drought tolerance for rainfed areas of Balochistan. He also received Research productivity award during 2011 for this achievement.|
|He was awarded Dr. Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science & Technology Fellowship Program in 2012 and worked at CIMMYT (Mexico) and CIMMYT/KARI, Kenya. During Borlaug fellowship he worked on wheat improvement especially emphasized on rust resistance. He screened and characterized different advanced wheat germplasmwheat against leaf, stem and stripe rust races for major and minor resistant genes. He also worked on rust race identification, gene postulation and standardization of rust scoring.|
Jahangir Khan is working on evaluation of bread and durum wheat under irrigated and rainfed conditions of Balochistan with aim on high yield, disease resistance (rust) and drought tolerance. He improved wheat program by increasing germplasm testing (multi-location) and also started hybridization program aimed to improve disease resistance and drought tolerance. The wheat breeding program at BARC comprised of facultative and spring types of wheat. He also initiated studies on characterization of local landraces, aphid resistance and drought susceptibility indices. Mr. Jahangir Khan also supervised 5 M.Phil. students (research and thesis) from SardarBahadur Khan Women University. At present he is supervising M.Phil. and masters research of 5 students.
He also worked under different national and international project and completed one project as Principal investigator. He has developed linkage with international and national institutes for wheat and barley evaluationagainst biotic and abiotic stress. He participated and successfully completed three international and 6 national professional trainings on crop plant improvement and statistics. On his part there are 2 varieties and eight research papers published and presented in refereed journals and going to release/register another yellow rust resistant and drought tolerant wheat variety for rainfed areas of Balochistan.
